or the use of mono-atomic substances.

What always did intruiged me is the use of sperm in various traditions.
Sperm has  high monoatomic ingrediants or at least so have read somewhere.
Next the increase of hormones nessecary for certain states.
Also creating superconductors for magic with metals.
Stuff like that.
And didn't AC have some inclination with manna too ?

In any case anybody having actual experience with this stuff?
Thinking about trying it.

I paste you a post in the Chaosworldwide mailinglist.
The author is well known in the magical community.
Probably I'll report some others of his interesting answers about stuff.

If I look at the statement that the OTO desires to infect the "world" with the belief of Thelema and compare it with the succes of other directions in the last century, I wonder how effective that kind of magic really is.
The last century was a ground for cultblooming , hyping and idolisation.
Anything was possible.
Why  paganism hit off big and Thelema didn't remains a question.

<snip>Why  paganism hit off big and Thelema didn't remains a question.</snip>

You think? I may have misunderstood your point, and mine may be due to the circles I run in, but seems to me I see Thelema *everywhere*--albeit within the context of magic, but still... I suspect the collective OTO is bigger than the GD (from which it evolved, in some ways), BOTA, IOT(A), or any other proper so-called-Western magico-religious body. And I know a lot of people who practise Thelemic activities w/o properly identifying with the group (eg, consider the popularity of the Thoth Tarot). I think the OTO is doing pretty well.

Paganism may be intrinsically deeper and wider than Thelema, culturally speaking (there are Celtic deities, Nordic deities, Greek, Roman, Egyptian... lots to choose from, and they don't all tie back to a single and relatively-new-to-the-historical-scene figure as Crowley), and I suspect many would consider Thelema a type of paganism, in which case your question might be like asking, why did Christianity hit it off big while Calvinism didn't? (I realise the analogy is not precisely accurate.)

In any case, I am not making one in defense of the efficaciousness of Cakes of Light; just making a point about the pervasiveness of Thelema.
