Just wondering what the gender split is here - roughly Smiley

From what I've experienced thus far, and from a brows through authors on the subject, RM, Chaos, Cabalism (Madonna doesn't count, Dion Fortune fair enough) - such magical systems really don't seem to attract all that many women. Most writers are male, most Ritual Magicians are male, most forums seem to have a higher proportion of blokes. In my own life there have been proportionately more men who have inspired me and got me into the really interesting stuff.

This isn't a bitch, I'm seriously just curious. Is it a hang-over from the Masonic Lodges or summat? Or is there just something about these systems that is unappealing do you think - a different mental way of working? Glance over to witchcraft and earth-based religions and women seem to take over, wicca seems about an even split - originally more men I think, now more women.

Any thoughts? Does this discourage young women (or older women) from getting involved?
