Effective Sigil "Firing" technique?

Hey,

I was wondering (after reading about it in a Chaos e-book) if the following was an effective way to "empower" a sigil, and fire it "out to the universe."

The technique (to reach the gnostic state) was to hold the breath until passing out, but I was wondering if something else could be done.

Could you have the sigil, in glyph form, in front of you or be holding on to it as you hold your breath for as long as possible. Right before you are sure that you will pass out, and you just need to take another breath, you focus on the sigil completely for a few more seconds then take the necessary breath?

Would this be effective?
