In some honor of our 138th member ("we are 138!"), DG, I have shared this ritual from my archive.

Sounds rigorous!  Seeing mathematical rituals encourages me as I look forward to (explicitly) using them myself someday.  For example. . . (but maybe I should stick to MMM for now).   Smiley Lips Sealed

It's really not much more than bastardizations of the LBRP and Catholic Eucharist, maybe plus a good reason to eat a Hebrew National. My love for Wiener is all sincere, though.

(but maybe I should stick to MMM for now)

It's more than just a good start.

No, of course! It's good, just... weird. I think that probably because I never saw such a literal use of mathematical (meta-)symbol-set in applied magick before.

Speaking of synchronicities and symbol-sets.... I read the "North2" as North squared and tried to figure out what vector multiplication was used to arrive to East, and why is the East labeled as "unusual", like a derivative or something..... Gah!  Grin

Speaking of synchronicities... I hastily checked The Ideosphere for new posts before I headed off for work- my usual routine. I found your ritual intriguing and left it minimized so I would look at it when I got home. With that in mind I began to gather my things and head off to work. Realizing I had just finished the last book I was reading I ventured to find something new. As I'm moving in a short time most of my books are packed up which leaves me limited choices. I looked at the shelf my keys are kept on and randomly grabbed a book I purchased quite a long time ago because I thought it looked intriguing. That book.....God and Golem, Inc. by none other than Norbert Wiener- fact which I didn't recognized until I pulled the book out of my bag to read.

It's always encouraging when these things happen. It also settles the question of whether I will give this a try or I wont. I most certianly will. I think it should help to understand Russell's work (read C.F. Russell) as well as to aid in my re-learning precalculus mathematics.

I'll leave you feedback as soon as I have some.

Many thanks.

North2: brilliant! I make mistakes like that all the time, and sometimes they lead to insights (but mostly I just feel foolish when I recognize the author's or narrator's intended meaning).

God and Golem, Inc: Great book! Wish I still had my red-black-and-white copy (I have a discarded, library-bound edition, now). Btw, if anyone feels to get in touch w/ Wiener's work, I recommend _The Human Use of Human Beings: Cybernetics and Society_, which is sort of a layman's exposition of the ideas put forth by its predecessor, _Cybernetics: or Control and Communication in the Animal and the Machine_.

I'll be pleased to receive your feedback, AE, in any case.

Genius.
A warmup exercise for the higher math classes at Miskatonic High.
