For me, Shamanism seems like a path that has been as drawn to me as I have been drawn to it.
My first real introduction to counterculture came with interest in Jim Morrison, and his fascination with Shamanism
Then came Carlos Castenada. And then Micheal Harner and some info on Celtic Shamanism
After that was Alex Grey's 'Sacred Mirrors'
I was especially taken by the journey of the individual into the role of the Shaman.
Where one goes into the underworld, gets torn apart, and then is "reborn" into the role of Shaman.
Later, my personal journeys brought me into contact with some South American Shamans who work with Ayahuasca.
That felt like some hardcore intiations.
Daniel Pinchbeck's work I like. I've read both 'Breaking Open the Head' as well as his new one, '2012:The Return of Quetzacoatl'
I recently met him walking along the streets of Lower Manhattan and got a chance to interview him.
I'm going to post it on the Maybe Logic Quarterly.
One thing that I like about the type of Shamanism I have had experiential contact with is the acknowledgment the Energy Body.
Only recently have I been working with this Belief System in a organizized fashion
I see definite parallels with this Energy utilization and Tantra (The Art of Energy)
I am having a lot of fun utilizing this model in my life......
